Minutes of the Regular Meeting of
the Board of Education, Negaunee Public Schools, City of Negaunee, County of
Marquette, and State of Michigan, held February 21, 2005, at the Negaunee High
School Library, starting at 7:00 p.m.
Members Present: Fae Collins, Dan

126. The meeting was called to order by President Fae Collins at 7:00 p.m.
127. A quorum of the board was established.
128. Motion by M. Saari, supported by O. Kemp, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
129. Public
Comment:
PeriAnn
Wasie, a registered nurse in the MasterŐs in Nursing Program at Northern
Michigan University, addressed the Board on the topic of childhood
obesity. Ms. Wasie encouraged the
Board to support the Food Service Director and assist her in efforts to promote
healthy eating.
130. Motion by M. Renaldi, supported by D. Hintsala, to approve the minutes of the
regular
meeting held on January 17, 2005.
Motion carried 7-0.
131. Motion by O. Kemp, supported by D. Hintsala, to approve the consent items as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
132. Payment of Bills and Financial Reports
A. Motion
by V. Paulson, supported M. Saari, to approve the payment of bills totaling
$574,120.60. Motion carried 7-0.
B. Received
the Financial Report from the Administrative Aide for Finance, Mary Kay
Johnson.
133. Written reports were received from the Community Education Director, and the Health Coordinator. Oral reports were received from Bob Bonetti, High School Principal, Bob Trebilcock, Middle School Principal, Paulette Patron, Lakeview School Principal and Special Education Coordinator, and Superintendent Derocher.

135. Old Business:
A. Motion
by D. Rice, supported by V. Paulson, to adopt revised Board Policy number 2414
as presented. Motion carried 7-0.
136. New Business:
A. The Board reviewed the first reading of a new Board Policy number 2112. No action necessary at this time.
B.
The following Board members
were appointed to the Policy Committee:
Dan
Hintsala, Osmond Kemp, and Martin Renaldi.
C. Paulette Patron, Lakeview Elementary School Principal and Special Education Coordinator, presented a Special Education report to the Board. A brief question and answer session followed.
D. Superintendent Derocher presented the Board with an Enrollment Projection report. A brief question and answer session followed.
E. Superintendent Derocher discussed the enrollment information for the February 9, 2005, official student count date.
F. Superintendent Derocher informed the Board he had received letters requesting to reopen negotiations with the Michigan Education Association for both the teacherŐs union and support staff contracts.
G. Motion by V. Paulson, supported by M. Renaldi, to approve Sandra Bonsall and RaeAnn Loy as the Teachers of the Year for 2004-05. Motion carried 7-0.
H. Motion by M. Renaldi, supported by O. Kemp, to approve the following Schedule B positions:
Track: Girls Head Coach – High School - Vicki Leathers-Paupore
Girls Assistant Coach – High School – June Whippo
Girls Head Coach – Middle School – Jeff Niemi
Boys Head Coach – High School – Kevin Bell
Boys Assistant Coach – High School – Bill Ellerbruch
Boys Head Coach – Middle School – Kyle Bell
Tennis: Head Coach – Kevin Jacobson
Assistant Coach – Adam Kerry
Volunteer – Randy Sundell
Golf: Head Coach – Karen Plaiser
Volunteer – Mike Leannes
Volunteer – Patty Gagnon
Motion carried 7-0.
I. Motion by O. Kemp, supported by D. Rice, to approve the hiring of Jeanne Kinnunen and Patty Davis as Non-Instructional Aides at Lakeview School, these will be 1.25 hour positions.
The Board was also informed of 3 employee resignations:
Lynn DesRocher, High School Secretary
*Linda Spencer, Non Instructional Aide at Lakeview
*Margaret Derwin, Non Instructional Aide at Lakeview
*These individuals will
remain in their Instructional Aide positions.
The Board was informed of the positing of a Middle School Secretary, due to the transfer of Mary Koski to the High School. Motion carried 7-0.

139. Motion by M. Saari, supported by O. Kemp, to adjourn the meeting at 8:51 p.m. Motion carried 7-0.
