Congratulations to N.M.S. 8th grade student, Liliana Saunders. In late October, Lili's essay, titled, "How Can I Be a Good American?", took first place in the local V.F.W. Patriotic Pen essay competition. From there, Lili's essay was sent to District officials, to compete with the top essays from across the Upper Peninsula. We recently found out that Liliana's essay was picked as the top essay at the District level, as well. Now, her writing will compete against the top middle schoolers in the State, as it has been sent to Kalamazoo for the next round of judging.Awesome job, Lili! Whether you're a Michigan football fan or not, it's safe to say all of Negaunee will be cheering for NHS alumna Madison Downey when she takes the field with the Michigan Marching Band at the Big Ten Football Championship game this weekend. The daughter of Kevin and Lisa Downey, Madison was a dedicated member of the NMS and NHS bands all throughout her years in Negaunee and is now a student at the University of Michigan and a member of the prestigious Michigan Marching Band.Madison was recently chosen to perform at the big game with just 200 other Michigan Marching Band members after a series of tryouts and hundreds of hours of practice. Making the cut to play at this event is an indication of Madison's dedication to hard work and incredible musical talent on the piccolo. NPS is happy to say Madison got her start in marching band as a Negaunee Miner and continues to make our small town beam with pride 💙 💛 Congratulations, Madison--Go Blue! ... See MoreSee Less
